First and foremost, I am a follower of Christ. Second, I am a wife who had the privilege of marrying her best friend in August of 2010. Third, I am the mother of a perfect baby boy born in August of 2013.
Around April of 2013 we found out that our son would have something extra. He had a third copy of the 21st chromosome, otherwise known as Down syndrome. We also found out that he had two heart defects, a complete AV canal defect and a double outlet right ventricle, that required open heart surgery in November of 2014. Just before his open heart surgery, on October 31, 2014, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He then went through 6 rounds of chemo. Unfortunately chemo destroyed part of the repair from his first open heart surgery, so he needed a second open heart surgery to repair a large ventricular septal defect, which happened in September of 2015.
He is now in remission and has a healthy heart. He’s an energetic, strong willed, fun little guy, who we couldn’t love more. I started this blog to share Mason’s incredible story.
